Bridge Documentation

This smaller bridge has been dwarfed by the larger and newer Ganter Bridge nearby. The arch barrel of this bridge appears to be concrete and the keystone appears to have 1933 on it. As such, this appears to be a stone faced concrete arch bridge rather than a pure stone arch bridge. A bridge was originally built here as part of the Simplon road built 1801–1805 by Napoleon I. It is possible that the abutments of this bridge date to this period and it was just the arch that was replaced, using a stone facing to simulate what the original bridge might have looked like.
