This is the newest of three bridges located here in the Schöllenen Gorge. It was built to replace the Old Bridge and was also a realignment of the old road. The entire exterior of the bridge appears to be stone. Stone arch bridges were not normally built in the mid 20th century, and this bridge has a very shallow arch that would also be unusual for a stone arch bridge. It is possible that this is a stone faced concrete arch bridge, but because the even the underside of the arch is stone it was not possible to confirm this theory. Alternatively, if this theory is wrong and the bridge is a true stone arch bridge it is a very late example of a stone arch bridge and has a notable span length.
