This is a rare example in the state of a lightweight double-intersection Warren pony truss bridge, with truss members and chords composed of riveted angles only. This style of bridge, with its combination of double-intersection Warren truss configuration and use of angles is a style that can be found in small numbers in some other states like Missouri. The Tennessee example stands out however for its curved top chord detail at the ends, and for its attractive lattice railing.
Bridges like this were likely offered as less expensive and easier to install alternatives to more traditional truss bridge types which would have been of more massive design.
The bridge dates to ca. 1900.
The bridge is on the historic Belle Meade Plantation and contributes to the associated National Register of Historic Places District.
