This bridge was built in 1940 at the same time as the Chickamauga Dam. Indeed, the bridge appears to have originally been constructed for accessing the dam. The bridge continues to serve today as part of an access road for people working at the dam, and as such is intended for use by "authorized personnel only."
Technologically, the bridge appears to be a relatively early surviving example of a continuous deck plate girder.
This bridge is next to the larger Wilkes T. Thrasher Bridge.
