This long-abandoned bridge (bypassed by TX-95 in the mid-1960s) has one of the most unusual vertical member designs ever seen and is assumed to be the work of the George E. King Bridge Company or the Chicago Bridge and Iron Works, the only two known bridge builders to have used this type of vertical. The verticals are composed of pairs of angles that are positioned at 90 degree angles to each other, with the v-lacing and battens passing through the middle, giving the vertical members a most unusual appearance. Based on this design, it is assumed that the bridge is the work of the George E. King Bridge Company which used this very distinctive design detail. The deck of this bridge was burned by vandals and this fire damaged the top of the built-up floorbeams. Some of the diagonals have been cut off, perhaps by scrap thieves. The portal bracing has been altered with an ugly and badly designed replacement.The built-up vertical member design is decribed as a "star strut" in historical texts.
