Bridge Documentation

Originally a skybridge between two buildings of the historic Lone Star Brewery, this truly unique bridge was moved and preserved for pedestrian use. When the Lone Star Brewery was converted for use as the San Antonio Museum of Art in 1981, the bridge was removed and replaced with a glass enclosed skybridge. The historic bridge was placed on the ground where it sat for decades. When the Museum Reach project was undertaken to expand the riverwalk in the area, the historic bridge was restored and placed over the river at this location.

The bridge itself is a unique design. A simple span truss bridge, it is unique for its curved top chord and bottom chord. The bridge's unique truss chord design defies classification, although the diagonal members follow a Pratt truss configuration. The bridge also has very unusual trussed floorbeams.

It is not clear when the bridge was originally built. While the Lone Star Brewery was originally built in the 1880s, it was expanded in the early 1900s, so the bridge could date to the expansions.
