This bridge was in the process of being preserved when its owner gave up and decided to simply replace it with a slab of concrete. HistoricBridges.org took photos of the bridge after it had been set on the ground for restoration, but after a replacement slab of concrete had been built. Reportedly, the owner gave up on preservation because of some unforeseen costs to repair the bridge. If a historic bridge is inspected by an expert in the restoration of this bridge type, surprise costs could have been avoided and overall project cost could have potentially been reduced as well. This bridge had some unusual alterations and repairs made to it over the years, but it appeared feasible to restore. It is a disappointing outcome that the bridge was scrapped after the effort was made to non-destructively remove it from the river for preservation.
This bridge was shop riveted, but all field connections were bolted.
