Bridge Documentation

This is a pair of truss bridges that sit side by side, forming a double-track crossing of the river, and a unique comparison between pinned and riveted connections. The north bridge has a pin-connected truss for the main span, while the south bridge has a similar through truss span however it has riveted connections and some slight differences in member design. Both bridges feature plate girder approach spans of identical design. It is assumed that the pin-connected truss is older, but stylistically the design of each bridge suggests that may not be that much different in age. Thus, they provide a unique side-by-side comparison between pinned and riveted connections, with all other design details being quite similar. Both bridges have modern approach spans at the east end. This page provides photos for the northern truss, which is the older bridge with pinned connections.

Click here to view the page for the southern bridge, which has riveted connections.
