2020 Update: This bridge was previously located in storage near Capac Road at 42.963760,-82.937480. It has now been rediscovered on Sparling Road at these coordinates: 42.967165, -82.661868 and in its new location the new owner has reinstalled lattice railings on the bridge, although it continues to just sit on the ground.
Barely visible off of Capac Road, this is a Warren pony truss that one would assume once served the nearby crossing of Capac Road over Belle River until its was replaced by an ugly slab of concrete a number of years ago. Of course, it is possible that it is just coincidence that the bridge is nearby another crossing, and that the bridge was moved here to the landowner's property from some distant location.
The only reason this bridge isn't in the dumpster today is because somebody who lives near the bridge took it and set it in their yard. Although nothing has been done to the bridge since then, the bridge is still in existence, and could still see a useful future if the current owner decides to do something with it.
Although privately owned, and no longer crossing anything, this bridge is still significant as a representative example of the types of bridge that would have been commonplace in St. Clair County many years ago. The design, a riveted connection Warren pony truss of decent length and composed mostly of paired angles could once be found in substantial numbers in the Thumb and southeastern Michigan, but this is the only example left in St. Clair County. This example lacks the lattice guardrails which were usually present on this bridge type. Outriggers on the bridge have a lattice design on them. The bridge is rusted, although a light green paint is present on the bridge, a common color that was used on other bridges in St. Clair County many years ago. This paint color at least suggests that wherever the bridge came from, it would appear to have come from somewhere in St. Clair County.
