With a 1959 construction date, this is an example of a number of truss bridges remaining in Ontario that are from the middle of the 20th Century, well past what is the traditional truss bridge era. This bridge was fabricated by Ardelt Industries of Canada Ltd. of Kitchener, Ontario. While perhaps not as interesting as a 1900s bridge, these structures still convey a strong sense of beauty and might, and if maintained are capable of safely carrying traffic on major highways like TC-17. This bridge is no exception, with massive members and a large lattice portal bracing, which looks quite impressive as you approach this bridge from a distance. This through truss bridge is a subdivided Warren truss. However the subdivision goes beyond simply adding verticals, as there is also secondary vertical and diagonals that run from halfway up the diagonal members. The result is what one might call a Baltimore-Warren truss bridge. Characteristic of a newer bridge, this structure has bolted connections, although the built up members are all riveted. As such, the bridge represents the gradual transition away from rivets that occurred during this period. The one-span structure sits on concrete abutments. There are rocker bearing nests as the southern end of the bridge. The original railings have been replaced with concrete/pipe combination railings.
