Bridge Documentation

This bridge is a small example of a pony truss and one of an increasingly rare structure type locally thanks to demolition past, present, and planned for the future by the Niagara Region. It would be nice to see some of these bridges rehabilitated rather than demolished and replaced. Bridges like this one can often be repaired for less than the cost of demolition and replacement. Furthermore, the beauty and heritage of a bridge type no longer built today would be retained. This bridge is one a busy route in the region. It was once King's Highway 20, but like many provincial highways is now locally owned. Despite the traffic the bridge carries, it is in decent condition and have no significant alterations to its original materials or design.

Traffic waiting for the Allanburg Bridge backs up onto this bridge and beyond. Perhaps this means that the bridge has a chance to be admired by drivers who would otherwise pass over this short bridge with little notice.
