Located next to the State Street Bridge, this is a rare scene in Michigan: two truss bridges within sight of each other.
This railroad bridge is a warren through truss bridge with riveted connections. V-lacing is present on several areas of the bridge. It has a long series of wooden approach spans at the southern end. The bridge is rusted, but black paint is still on parts, which is typical of a railroad bridge. Also typical of railroad bridges, the bridge appears to have been built to last. Everything on it is massive, especially the i-beams below the bridge. This bridge is not going anywhere no matter how much rust it has.
The abutments on this bridge have 1908 stamped on them, and the bridge portal bracing shows a 1909 date, which makes sense, since the abutments would have been built first.
