Bridge Documentation

This bridge is a stone arch bridge that has an appearance similar to the old London Bridge (the one which moved to Arizona). It was widened in 1933, but apparently great care was taken to maintain the original appearance of the bridge.

Listed At: Grade II

Discussion:

List Entry Number: 1079799 and 1357672

1884 by Sir Joseph Bazagette, modelled on Rennie's London Bridge. Rusticated granite-faced bridge of four cutwaters add buttresses, five spans with false voussoirs with stepped extrados. Bold cornice and plain parapet. On the parapets iron lamp standards with foliate base and three foliate branches: lamps replaced. (North half of bridge is in London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham).

Grey granite. Five segmental arches of chanelled masonry. Plain buttresses above cut-waters. Bold cornice and plain solid parapet with three-light standards centrally above each arch. Southern half of bridge in London Borough of Wandsworth.
