This is one of the last known surviving examples of a truss bridge built using the unusual tapered vertical members of the Roanoke Bridge Company. As of 2019, there were only three known examples in the country remaining. The unusual design features built-up vertical members, which are tapered, being wider at the base than at the top. Also unusual is the framed design at the bottom chord connection, where the vertical member frames the bottom chord, with a a u-bolt hanger on both sides holding the floorbeams. The unusual details unique to this bridge builder makes this truss bridge highly significant.
