This bridge is an impressive high level railroad bridge. It is an example of what was commonly called the tower and girder style of bridge, tower referring to the tall steel bents that support the bridge. This particular bridge also features deck truss spans over the river.

The bridge is located in a spectacular setting that is dominated by desolate rocky cliffs.

This bridge is next to the Lyons Ferry Bridge which was moved here in 1968. Also in 1968 the Joso High Bridge was reportedly raised to accommodate the higher waters when the Lower Monumental Dam was constructed. The nature and method of this, and what effect this had on the approaches is not known.

The Kelly-Atkinson Construction Company of Chicago, Illinois erected the superstructure and the Missouri Valley Bridge and Iron Company of Leavenworth, Kansas erected the steel substructure. Caughren, Bornton and Company of Spokane, Washington constructed the concrete.
