This bridge is one of only two lattice truss bridges in Washington State. Both examples in Washington State are exceedingly rare examples of Triple Intersection Warren truss bridges. The other one is in Richland and is not yet photographed by HistoricBridges.org. Lattice truss bridges of any kind are uncommon nationwide, but most examples of lattice trusses in the United States are Quadruple Intersection Warren trusses. As such, this bridge is an extremely rare and highly significant example of its type. It is also locally significant as one of the few metal truss bridges in the county.
This bridge was abandoned in 1973 and converted for pedestrian use in 2012.
The bridge was originally 560 feet long and had a through plate girder approach span at each end, but the girder span at the east end was removed when the bridge was converted for pedestrian use.
