Situated in the gorgeous, rural New River valley is this magnificent 1920s deck truss bridge, which includes a bonus pony truss span over the railroad tracks that follow the river. From west to east, the bridge consists of one short Warren deck truss span, three large Pratt deck truss spans, and finally the Warren pony truss span. The large deck truss spans have a somewhat lightweight look to their trusses, while in contrast the pony truss span is decidedly massive in appearance. This bridge retains original West Virginia standard lattice railing. Historic integrity of the trusses is good.
It is recomended to reach this bridge from the west (Thurmond), because The road east and south of the bridge slowly degrades into a muddy two-track trail.
