This is an attractive two-span arch bridge that has unfortunately not been maintained well. The railings are in particularly bad shape. Rather than repair the concrete, with attention paid to maintaining the original appearance of the bridge, square steel brackets were added to the outside of the railings. These detract from the appearance of the bridge and do little to improve the life of the structure. Another historically insensitive alteration was rather than repairing the original deck, asphalt was poured on the deck. The result of this is that half of the railings are no longer visible on the bridge deck, as they are buried in the asphalt layer.

These historic integrity damaging alterations, as well as the poor overall structural condition due to lack of maintenance is unfortunate, as this is an otherwise beautiful historic concrete arch bridge located in a picturesque area.

This bridge should serve as a warning. West Virginia has some other concrete arch bridges that retain better integrity and steps should be taken to preserve these structures before it is too late in order to retain some of these beautiful historic structures on the landscape.
