Overview of disassembled upper chord splice.
Fabrication punch marks forming numbers/symbols which were hidden inside the upper chord splice and have not been seen since the bridge was fabricated.
Disassembly of the bridge revealed unusual cracked and damaged parts of the bridge. It is suspected that the bridge or parts of the bridge were damaged during the original assembly of the bridge and fixed in the field. Note the mis-shaped splice place.
The lower chord was the last to be removed.
Heating and removing nuts and pins for lower chord.
This unusual lower chord pin appears to have been created by the original erection crew perhaps to replace a missing pin. It is an unthreaded rod which was hammered at the ends to hold the nut on.
