Center lock. Typically in a double leaf bascule as seen here, the center lock consists of one bascule leaf called the diaphragm leaf and the jaw leaf. When the bridge is lowered, the jaw leaf is lowered all the way, with the diaphragm leaf left up slightly. When the jaw leaf is down, the diaphragm leaf can be lowered and its portion of the lock slides into place inside the jaw leaf.
