This bridge no longer exists!

This historic bridge is at risk for demolition!

This bridge is a good example of a railroad swing bridge. It is a fairly short example, meaning that when open two rather narrow channels are provided for boats. The truss structure is traditionally composed, however unlike many swing bridges, the truss does not form a tower over the pier. This bridge is slated to be replaced. Interestingly, the bridge will be replaced by a bascule bridge span that was being replaced in Galveston Texas. The railroad stated in a news article that it recognized the historic and functional value of the historic bridge and said it would try to find a place to reuse the bridge on its railroad line, perhaps to replace some old wooden spans. However it is not known if that plan panned out. Therefore, the bridge may be at risk for demolition.
