This bridge was demolished and replaced in 2010!

The Churchill Road Bridge is an unusual bridge because of its railing design. It is similar to bridges like the one seen on Fisher Road in St. Clair County. However with the Churchill Road Bridge, there are no balustrades and instead a solid concrete design is seen. With a 1929 construction date, the design seen on Fisher Road had already been in use as seen on the 1927 Center Road Bridge. As a result, this bridge appears to have been the victim of a distasteful, if well-done, repair job from long ago. As a result it is difficult to distinguish the alteration from the original portions of the railing. The only clue is that the newer and patched sections of concrete show very slightly less deterioration than the rest of the concrete on this bridge, which suffers from spalling. The other way to reach this conclusion is to compare the bridge to other examples in the state. Usually, the National Bridge Inventory is a place to learn when a bridge was heavily altered, but there is also no alteration date listed in the national bridge inventory for this bridge, which does happen frequently.

The bridge crosses the Grand River, which is Michigan's longest river. The Grand River runs from extreme southern Jackson County a bit west of US-127, under a half mile short of being in Hillsdale County, all the way to Grand Haven over in West Michigan. Crossing the river in northern Jackson County, Churchill Road reveals a Grand River that is nothing like the relatively large river that it develops into when it reaches Lansing.

This bridge is slated for demolition in 2009. The bridge is in poor condition, and apparently worse on the eastern side, since the county closed that side of the bridge turning it into a one-lane crossing.
