Although it is a relatively short span, this bridge is important because it maintains near-perfect integrity. Numerous examples of this bridge type can be found throughout Michigan, yet few are in the good condition that this bridge is. The guardrails are original, and are not covered up. Also, there is very little concrete deterioration. This bridge is nearly the opposite of the disintegrating Fisher Road Bridge #2.
This bridge is also significant as an example of a bridge that is associated with an Assessment District. Assessment Districts were used for bridges that were on the county line, to help deal with who should pay for the bridge. The Jefferson Avenue Bridge is another such example.
A revisit to the bridge in 2022 found it in good condition still, although the south railing was starting to spall some.
