Bridge Documentation

This bridge has been altered, resulting in a severe loss of historic integrity and significance!

Bridge Status: The main spans of this bridge were replaced but the approach spans remain original.

This is a large deck truss that today is only significant for its surviving original approach spans. It is today paired with a modern truss dating to 1973. The main spans of the historic bridge appear to date to 1975, likely a project begun after completion of the 1973 bridge. An unusual coincidence is that this bridge sits next to a railroad bridge with the same alteration: replacement of the main span. This bridge is somewhat unusual as it is a large steel bridge completed during World War II. It is likely it was considered strategically important at the time as this would have been a major crossing, even though it predates the Interstate Highway System.
