This six panel through truss bridge is an important bridge because it displays the unique and distinctive design details of its builder, the Smith Bridge Company. Those details include the specific decorative design of the portal bracing and plaque. The company also had a specific way of configuring its bearings and bottom chord connections at the end posts. Other details, such a the plain sway bracing that lacks v-lacing or lattice as well as the use of battens under the top chord / end post instead of v-lacing or lattice, while certainly not unique to the Smith Bridge Company, are still details that nearly always appeared in the company's through truss bridges of the period.
