This rare variable depth deck plate girder swing bridge is slated for demolition and replacement! Although the bridge no longer operates for boats, it retains good historic integrity with no major alterations. The bridge sits on the state line and has a Texas style bridge plaque, but the bridge was the design work of the Louisiana Highway Commission per an agreement made when the bridge was constructed. With so many movable bridges in Louisiana (and most designed in-house without aid from a consulting engineer), the Louisiana Highway Commission was perhaps better qualified to cost-effectively design this bridge than the Texas Highway Department.
