Bridge Documentation

This large bridge has a rare and early Strauss trunnion bascule span, and equally significant ribbed concrete arch approach spans.

The bascule span has an arched girder design that might mislead casual viewers into thinking it is a double-leaf bascule. However, it is a single leaf bascule bridge. Railroad bascule bridges are always always single leaf because they are more rigid, which is preferred for railroad use.

The bascule span measures 129 feet. Concrete arch spans vary in length, with the longest spans being 160 feet.
