This bridge is one of two similar bridges found in Cass County that are noted for their distinctive design of railing. The simple steel stringer bridges are distinguished by the solid concrete railings have a rather attractive and unique pattern set into them. It is not known where the design of this bridge comes from. It does not appear to be a statewide standard plan, since the design is not found statewide. It however does not appear to be the exclusive design of one county, since one example of this design was found in neighboring Van Buren County.
This bridge is skewed, and the historic integrity appears to be excellent. The mile of road to the north of the bridge is gravel, but the road is paved to the south. There are several houses on this section, but most of them are on the paved part. The Dowagiac River was also straightened through here for drainage (note "Swamp Road" to the south).
