This grade separation, crossing what is essentially Main Street Detroit, was designed with exceptional architectural details compared to most overpasses. The bridge is actually composed of two bridges side by side. The outermost girders are faced with decorative R4 railing. The gap in between the two bridges was originally lined with an extremely rare picketed railing design sometimes used by the Michigan State Highway Department. This railing lined the area at road level as well as at the top of the abutments. Sadly, by the time HistoricBridges.org documented this bridge, the lower section of railing had been replaced with New Jersey barrier.
Additional significance for this bridge is derived from its construction using Depression era relief funds.
