It took a substantial road cut to bring State Road in straight from the high ground to the south, presumably done when the current bridge was built. This is an older stringer bridge just west of the State Road bridge. The drive that splits off to the older bridge appears to be part of a previous road alignment which took a more indirect route up the steep hill.
This bridge is of interest mainly because it appears to be an old alignment of State Road, and as such is a chance to see two generations of bridge side by side. The steel stringer bridge's stringers are in extremely poor condition. The railings are simple welded railings that may not be original to the bridge. There appear to be small holes on the stringers that may have been the original railing attachment. The bridge today serves a private drive to provide access to a canoe livery outpost.
