Kris Dyer provided some information she was told by the Hawkins family about the Hawkins Bridge. The family indicates that the bridge was not moved here in 1966. Kirk Hawkins said: "There seems to be some misinformation concerning the history of Hawkins Bridge. This historic bridge has been at its current location over the Finley River since 1915. There is an unconfirmed story that prior to 1915 it was used at a previous location (possibly Stone County), then moved to current location. Just want to set the record straight on this. My grandfather, Herbert Hawkins, donated the land for the bridge and it has been there, unmoved, since 1915. I was born in 1950 and grew up spending time at bridge. So personally know it's recent history plus family stories of earlier history."
This bridge is (as of 2017) one of two multi-span pin-connected pony truss bridges in the county. In general however, multi-span pin-connected pony truss bridges are rare. Longer crossings usually used larger through truss spans rather than smaller pony truss spans. This bridge was relocated from an unknown location to here in 1966.
