Information and Findings From New Jersey's Historic Bridge Inventory

Discussion of Bridge

The 2-span stone arch bridge was constructed in 1900. The upstream portion is ashlar with ringstones. It retains its lattice and floral boss railing. The bridge was widened in 1980 by a reinforced concrete addition of corresponding shape on the downstream side. The addition has a paneled concrete parapet. A concrete toe wall was added to the original pier. One of over 10 stone arches in the county, it has lost significance due to the alterations and is thus not a noteworthy example of the type.

Discussion of Surrounding Area

The bridge carries a narrow 2-lane county road over the Musconetcong River. It is located in a wooded lightly settled suburban area adjacent to an abandoned mill and mill race. High stone piers from a non-extant railroad are visible from the bridge. The area was known as Changewater.
