This stone arch bridge is noted for its rare lattice railing, but has been widened on one side with concrete.
Information and Findings From New Jersey's Historic Bridge InventoryDiscussion of Bridge The 2-span stone arch bridge was constructed in 1900. The upstream portion is ashlar with ringstones. It retains its lattice and floral boss railing. The bridge was widened in 1980 by a reinforced concrete addition of corresponding shape on the downstream side. The addition has a paneled concrete parapet. A concrete toe wall was added to the original pier. One of over 10 stone arches in the county, it has lost significance due to the alterations and is thus not a noteworthy example of the type. Discussion of Surrounding Area The bridge carries a narrow 2-lane county road over the Musconetcong River. It is located in a wooded lightly settled suburban area adjacent to an abandoned mill and mill race. High stone piers from a non-extant railroad are visible from the bridge. The area was known as Changewater. Bridge Considered Historic By Survey: No |
