This is a very unusual welded truss bridge that sits right next to a beautiful historic railroad bridge. The history of this bridge is not known. The bridge is an example of an unusual standard design welded truss found only in New York State. The bridge has a simple, somewhat homemade appearance to it, yet the design is not unique in the state, with some other examples found elsewhere in the state in both pony and through truss designs. Some of them have been dated to the 1930s and found eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places. This example is listed with a 1934 construction date. Pre-1940 welded truss bridge represent early examples of welded truss bridges and are thus historically significant. The members on this bridge show signs of unused holes, some of which are filled with welds. The quality of welding on the bridge does not look like that expected of a bridge company that specialized in welded truss bridge construction. Some of the steel has Phoenix brands on them. Equally unusual are the timber bents, which rest upon concrete foundations which rise above the water level. The bridge is today closed to traffic.
