This bridge is an excellent example of a double-Warren pony truss bridge. The design was used nationwide in fair numbers for situations when railroad companies were building a highway over railroad overpass. However, examples today are rare. The trusses appear to be largely unaltered, however the typical trouble areas around and below the deck level exhibit areas of severe section loss. However, as is often the case, the upper portions of the truss (which is the majority of the truss) remain in decent condition. A possible rehabilitation scenario would be to replicate and replace the bottom chord and bottom chord connections and repair the rest of the truss. Unfortunately, a creative rehabilitation project is not in the future for this bridge and instead the bridge is slated for demolition and replacement.
This bridge has an unusual form of bracing, which is composed of angles forming a transverse X that incorporates the features of both external outriggers and internal knee braces, yet stays very close to the vertical plane created by the truss.
This historic bridge has been demolished. This map is shown for reference purposes only.
