This bridge is a large, early, and significant example of concrete arch construction in Ontario. The bridge's roadway and arch spans rise to a center channel span, providing navigational clearance that was required to provide a fixed bridge at this location. The bridge is noted for its ornamental design including railings, pillars, and details on the arches. It has been rehabilitated, and while this rehabilitation undoubtedly has resulted in some loss of original material, the bridge appears to continue to convey its original design and aesthetic detailing.
The bridge replaced a movable swing bridge at this location.
