2020 Update: Review of Google Maps shows this heritage bridge was demolished and replaced with an ugly modern pedestrian bridge. Bridges like this heritage bridge are more than feasible to preserve for pedestrian use. It shows a complete lack of respect for Canada's heritage to demolish a bridge. It is not like the bridge needed to carry truck traffic for example.
This bridge is located on what was originally a highway, Rowntree Mill Road, but today this section including the bridge is open to non-motorized traffic only. This bridge is noted for its span length... long among pony truss bridges of this age. The bridge likely dates from 1900-1910. The plaque on the bridge is ceramic coated plate with all the ceramic gone, so it is not legible anymore. These somewhat less than durable plaques were popular with more than one bridge company in Ontario. However, in both design details and span length, this bridge is very similar to the Brockton Bridge. It is assumed that like the Brockton Bridge, the Hamilton Bridge Works also built this bridge. This bridge retains good historic integrity and for both reasons of function and heritage preservation, it is hoped that this bridge will continued to be maintained for pedestrian use.
