This highway used to be King's Highway 9. Along this stretch of road, the Conestogo River winds back and forth resulting in four bridges along this stretch of road. Three of them are concrete rigid-frame bridges and the fourth is a concrete arch bridge. All are noted for retaining their original railings. The concrete arch bridge is an uncommon example of a concrete arch bridge in Ontario. The other three rigid-frame bridges are historically significant as some of the earliest surviving concrete rigid-frame bridges in Ontario. The original railings add to the significance. These bridges are important historically because they document the beginning of a decades-long era in Ontario's history where the rigid-frame bridge would become one of the most commonly built bridge types in the province. These early rigid-frame bridges have a concrete balustrade railing that was a standard for a brief period of time. In only a year or two after these bridges were built, Ontario switched away from using these railings and utilized an ornamental steel railing, which also enjoyed popularity for many decades.
