This bridge is a three span steel deck arch bridge. Its arches were designed with a simplistic, streamlined appearance. The lack of spandrel bracing, limited use of v-lacing and lattice on built-up beams, and the relatively shallow rise of the arches all combine to create this appearance. The bridge's deck has been completely replaced and modernized so the bridge looks new to people who drive over it. Underneath however, the superstructure and substructure retains its original design. The arches are three hinged arches. The construction of this bridge was extensively photo-documented and the photos are available in the City of Toronto archives. Some of those photos are represented here in this narrative.
Photos of the previous bridge at this location are also present in the City of Toronto archives. The previous bridge featured a rivet-connected Warren (no verticals) pony truss main span. A series of short riveted Warren deck truss spans with shallow and lightweight construction provided an approach to the bridge.
