Bridge Documentation

This bridge no longer exists!

Bridge Status: Demolished and replaced.

Information from Ontario Bridge Inventory: Bridge width: 10.5 meters.

This bridge is one of a decreasing number of attractive and old rigid-frame overpass bridges on King's Highway 400.  These beautiful bridges are a striking contrast to the mundane and ugly overpass bridges that are, one by one, replacing these bridges. This bridge, built in 1961, is around 10 years younger than some of the older overpasses HistoricBridges.org documented over this highway. As such, the appearance of the bridge is a bit different. This bridge lacks the Ontario coat of arms bas-relief sculpture in the abutments. Also, the design of the rigid-frame structure provides the appearance an arched structure with a constant curve, rather than a curve that steepens at the ends and blends into the abutment as in the older overpasses. The result of this is that the abutments of this bridge and the arched portion have the appearance of distinct features of the bridge, although in truth as a rigid frame, these two elements are all part of a single continuous unit.

King's Highway 400 was the first city-to-city fully limited access highway in Ontario.
