Bridge Documentation

This bridge at first glance looks like the swing bridge that was built here in 1935. However, the heritage bridge was demolished and replaced with a new bridge. The pier for the previous 1935 bridge appears to remain in place immediately west of the current bridge. The only reason this modern bridge is shown on this website is that the replacement bridge appears to simulate the design of the original bridge. As an attempt at a replica, it does fairly well, with the exception that bolts were used instead of rivets. Normally, when an attempt to "replicate" a heritage metal truss bridge occurs it results in a modern structure that looks nothing like the heritage bridge. While this bridge is a rare example of an attempt to replicate a heritage truss bridge that did not fail completely in such a goal, it cannot be considered to have any heritage value, nor can this be considered to be a form of preservation.
