Designed by the state under the direction of noted engineer Conde McCullough, this bridge is a rare surviving example of a continuous riveted through truss. Aside from repairs related to oversize trucks crashing into the portal bracing and end post, resulting in repairs, the bridge retains good historic and physical integrity. Despite this, demolition and replacement was the verdict for this bridge. It would have been nice to see a one-way couplet of bridges created here, or the bridge left standing next to a new two-lane bridge for pedestrian use.
