This bridge is a high level overpass bridge that carries Vista Avenue over Jefferson Street. This is a handsome bridge with substantial architectural detailing and embellishment. It even includes a garden and seating area at the ends of the bridge. There also was seating included on the bridge itself. However the experience on the bridge deck is quite disappointing today as dense cyclone fencing (apparently a response to suicides at the bridge) has been added to the bridge, and the on-bridge benches are behind the fencing as well. The fencing is not mounted on top of the railing, rather it is in front of the railing, and disrupts the view of the ornamental balustrade railing. This bridge offers excellent views of the Portland skyline, but again the fencing disrupts this, with the small lenses of cell phone cameras the best bet for taking clear photos from the bridge. Despite the disappointing use of cyclone fencing on this bridge, the bridge itself retains good historic integrity in terms of structure and ornamentation, and is an outstanding example of a richly decorated concrete arch bridge.
