This is a large, high level concrete arch bridge of early construction for its size.
Information and Findings From Pennsylvania's Historic Bridge InventoryDiscussion of Bridge The 5 span, 431'-long, reinforced concrete arch bridge is supported by horizontally scored piers and finished with Neo-Classical style balustrades. The bridge reflects the tenets of the City Beautiful movement, and although it is contiguous to the Bethlehem Central Historic District, it was excluded from the district. The bridge is individually significant as a long, early, and very well detailed example of its bridge type, which was just starting to become commonly used in 1909. The bridge appears to be complete. Discussion of Surrounding Area The bridge carries a 2 lane street and sidewalks over a stream, a railroad line, a park that parallels the creek, and a city street in the central business district of Bethlehem. The bridge is north of but contiguous to the Bethlehem Central Historic District. It was clearly excluded from the original nomination and its later extension.
