This bridge is a rare surviving example of an earlier state standard through truss bridge in Pennsylvania. The earlier standard plan bridges have a less heavy looking portal bracing than the bridges built in the later 1930s and 1940s. There are far more of the later examples surviving than these earlier design trusses. Unlike other states such as Indiana, Pennsylvania failed to evaluate its historic bridges for significance in the context of state design and standard plan development, therefore the Historic Bridge Inventory found the bridge to be non-historic and didn't even mention that this bridge conforms to an earlier state highway design.
Information and Findings From Pennsylvania's Historic Bridge InventoryDiscussion of Bridge The single span, 166'-long riveted Parker thru truss bridge is supported on concrete abutments with wingwalls. The truss members are built-up sections. The concrete safety shape barriers were placed in 1977. The 1930 bridge is a late example of its technology and design details. It has no innovative or distinctive details. The bridge is not historically or technologically noteworthy. It was fabricated by the Bethlehem Steel Fabricating and Erection Division.
