Bridge Documentation

This very unusual bridge is unique as a Howe truss with a Camelback arrangement of the top chord. The Historic Bridge Inventory folks appear to have reviewed this bridge without even looking at the bridge. They called it a Warren truss which is completely incorrect! On this incorrect assumption, they found the bridge ineligible. The bridge is the only one of its kind in Pennsylvania and should be considered eligible.

Information and Findings From Pennsylvania's Historic Bridge Inventory

Discussion of Bridge

The 123' long and 16.1' wide riveted camelback thru truss bridge is supported on ashlar abutments with wingwalls. It was built in 1910. Riveted Warren thru truss bridges in Pennsylvania date to the early 1900s, like 09 7224 9991 0005 built in Bucks County in 1904. It is the early examples that represent the significance of the transition from pinned to riveted field connections. This bridge is neither historically or technologically significant.

Discussion of Surrounding Area

The bridge carries 1 lane of an abandoned township road over a stream in a rural area of active farms northeast of the Greene County Airport. The bridge is currently closed to traffic.
