This bridge is a larger structure than what is featured on HistoricBridges.org. The true main span of this bridge is not the pony truss discussed here, but is actually the deck truss span of unknown configuration that is buried in an overgrown area. A section of intermediate spans supported by metal bents connects these two truss spans.
The bridge is historically significant as a decent sized multiple span truss bridge that is a relatively early example of a truss bridge with riveted connections, with an 1892 construction date. Railroads needed stability and rigidity on their bridges more than highways did, so railroads were among the first to switch from pinned connections to riveted connections.
The pony truss span for which photos are featured on this website is an unusual camelback pony truss with a very distinct camelback shape. It appears to retain a high degree of historic integrity. It carries the railroad over a nearly abandoned roadway.
