This bridge is a near twin to the Franklin Street Bridge in Crawford County. Review that page for a further discussion of this bridge design. Both the Franklin Street Bridge and the Center Street Bridge were designed by the Crawford County engineer Karl A. Miller. What is unusual about this is that unlike the Franklin Street Bridge, the Center Street Bridge is located in Venango County. It is unusual that a county engineer would design a bridge for a county other than the one he or she worked for. However, Venango County must have been intrigued by the ingenuity and appealing appearance of the Franklin Street and decided it would make an excellent gateway for downtown Oil City, and so Karl Miller must have shared his plans with the neighboring county.
