This is a very rare example of a double-deck combined highway and railway bridge. For many years it served local highway traffic only, until 1973 when a new bridge used by most traffic today a ways north of here was completed. On June 16, 2021 Saskatchewan Ministry of Highways closed the road portion of the bridge due to rapidly deteriorating conditions however; the railway portion of the bridge currently remains active. The future of this highly significant heritage bridge, notably its highway deck, remains uncertain. Even if it is to remain closed, the highway portion of the bridge should not be removed, and should be left intact for its heritage value. The bridge was originally built by Canadian Pacific.
The historic integrity of the bridge is excellent and the bridge retains lattice railing on the highway deck.
