Bridge Documentation

This beautiful example of a King Bridge Company through truss has been preserved at this location for pedestrian use, the second time the bridge has moved.

This bridge originally crossed the Trinity River at an unknown location in Arltingon, Texas. In the early 1930s it was moved to Grapevine Highway (North Main Street) over Little Bear Creek. In 1975 when it became at risk for demolition and replacement. Warren Fuller worked with a county commissioner, South Euless Elementary School, and an adjacent property owner to get the bridge moved and relocated to its current location at the school. A nearby subdivision street is named Ironbridge Place likely after this bridge.

The relocation and preservation of this bridge in 1975 is a fairly early example of historic metal truss bridge preservation. Despite this fact, the relocation did not include any of the unsightly alterations that typify some of the earlier preservation efforts. The original built-up fishbelly floorbeams remain in place, as does the original lattice railing.
