Be sure to check out the links to HAER documentation for this bridge, it provides a detail history and description, and measured drawings.
This bridge is one of only a few truss bridges in the entire country that is constructed of reinforced concrete. This example retains perfect historic integrity, with no alterations present. The bridge is in need of repairs structurally, particularly on the bottom chord. However this bridge could and should be restored. It is one of the most unusual and noteworthy concrete bridges in the country. The concrete truss was only built for a very short period, and was never a popular bridge type. As such, very few examples remain today.
The construction of this bridge was an interesting process. The trusses were pre-cast in frames placed on the ground next to the bridge. When complete, these trusses were lifted up with a crane and placed into the slots in the abutment which hold the trusses. Deck and curb were cast in place.
